Our bodies can be a source of a great joy but sometimes we carry fears and inhibitions which prohibit us from fully letting go into our potential of ecstasy. Those tensions may lock themselves in the body’s muscles as well as burying themselves deep into the mind. Moving the body and letting it have free expression can dissolve the tensions that inhibits our more playful, and spontaneous spirit.

Dancing to music can help us to free ourselves both physically and emotionally. It is one of the most powerful mediums of celebration known to men and women. Rhythm and sound can evoke the sensuality of the body, the emotions of love and the feeling of spiritual awakening. All of these feelings can be manifested through physical movement; the stamping of feet and gyrating of the pelvis; the swaying of the body with arms uplifted as the heart is stirred, and the gentle, almost imperceptible motion which moves through the body like a quiet breeze when the mind is lulled and the soul is uplifted. Celebrate your body and its vitality together with your partner. Choose aromatic oils which will encourage each aspect of your nature to express itself through your movements. Choose your music carefully, so that at one time you can be totally in the physical sensations of your body, and another time in the expression of your feelings so that together you dance your love for each other. Clear your perfumed room so that you have the space to abandon yourself completely into movement. Remove your clothes so that you are naked and free, or leave on only those items which do not restrict you. Let go of your inhibitions and begin to dance, sometimes alone and sometimes together as the mood takes you. Find your own celebrative creativity and then let it harmonise with your lovers movements, so that it becomes one dance.

If you are dancing the dance of the wild, become free like a spirit of nature. Let your bodies go, stamping your feet and swaying your pelvis. Dance to the rhythm of music and the perfumes of patchouli, black pepper and orange, letting their earthy, warm and sunshine energies stir your passions.

On another occasion choose softer and more melodious music to express the more sensual and softer side of your nature. Be aware of the movements in your feet, legs and pelvis, but focus more on your upper body, especially on the belly and chest and let your arms open wide as your heart expands.

Breathe deeply as you move, letting your bodies synchronizetheir movement. To encourage your sensual, loving feelings, add sweet, heady ylang ylang to a blend of patchouli and black pepper (see Recipe 2) and put it in your scent burner.

The totally awesome Rihanna has been so busy dressing like a robot doctor from the future that she hasn’t done much musically in a while. However, according to her website, the wait is “ova”. Good to know. She debuted a new song, “Russian Roulette”, this morning, and it opens with a guitar making the most soaring and mournful sound this side of “Magic Man” and “Boys of Summer”, then goes into the line “you can see it through my chest.” Which we suppose refers to all her recent awesome see-through fashions. A for effort, RiRi.

Disturbed

Disturbed

Nearly a decade after the release of their groundbreaking debut, The Sickness, Disturbed have become one of the most passionate and well-respected bands in the hard-rock universe, a dependable source not only of pummeling riffs and jackhammer beats, but of personal and political insights into our troubled times. Yet success (in the form of three platinum-plus albums, with both Believe and Ten Thousand Fists topping Billboard’s album chart and over nine million albums sold) hasn’t dulled this Chicago-based foursome’s taste for adventure. If anything, Disturbed’s loyal fanbase has pushed the band to newer heights of self-expression. So it makes sense that on the occasion of their fourth album, Indestructible, that frontman David Draiman, guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren decided to take the reins and produce themselves in the studio.

“Doing three records with Johnny K taught us a tremendous amount,” Draiman says of the industry veteran who helmed The Sickness, Believe and Ten Thousand Fists. “We’re always trying to evolve and try new things and experiment,” adds Donegan. “So this time we wanted to do things a little bit differently.” Wengren says that Indestructible—which the band tracked over three months in Fall 2007 at Chicago’s Groovemaster Recording—afforded the band the “opportunity to prove to ourselves and to everybody else that we could do it.” The result of Disturbed’s experimentation in the studio is the group’s darkest, angriest outing yet. Inspired by two and a half years’ worth of challenging experiences, Draiman told the rest of the band that he was in the mood to purge. Fortunately, they were right there with him.

“We wanted to get back to some of the elements that were maybe lacking on the last two records,” says Donegan. “David’s got a great ability to sing really melodically, but we wanted him to get back to the rhythmic, animalistic, rapid-fire delivery he’s known for. He’s very hard to touch when he does that, and we wanted to give him music to provoke that.”

Rebuilt by humans

British singer/songwriter Newton Faulkner, who has been compared to many of his peers whom he supported on their U.K. tours, including James Morrison and Paolo Nutini. The intentions of the album are made clear on “Intro,” 34 seconds of acoustic guitar picking, and as he moves into the album proper on the tracks “To the Light” and the first single to be released, “I Need Something,” there is more of the same: pleasant songs with a minimum of backing. “All I Got” reminds one of Extreme’s “More Than Words” and on the second single, “Dream Catch Me,” there is much more meat on the bones of the song — and this finally propelled him into the Top Ten for the first time. For just over a minute, one really is wafted away to an Indian restaurant on the mini track/interlude “Sitar-y Thing,” and there are several of these short interludes scattered throughout the second half of the album, including “Face Her” and “She’s Got the Time,” which wouldn’t sound out of place on one of Paul Simon’s world record albums. A cover of the Massive Attack ethereal song “Teardrop” is stripped bare and translated to an acoustic version with none of the power of the original, but possibly more feeling. The album entered the charts at number three and, surprisingly, climbed to the very top several weeks later. ~ Sharon Mawer, All Music Guide

We can exclusively announce that the hugely anticipated follow up to Newton’s debut ‘Hand Built By Robots’ is to be titled ‘Rebuilt By Humans’ and is set for release September 21st.

The album titles makes reference to Newton’s near career-ending accident on Boxing Day last year when he slipped on ice and fractured and dislocated his right wrist. His injury forced the postponement of his UK tour and some recovery time which gladly has not affected his genius. So from ‘Hand Built By Robots’ to ‘Rebuilt By Humans’, the new album expands where the debut left off, pushing the frequencies with a multitude of instrumentation and amazing song writing including the single ‘If This Is It’ due for release September and tracks such as ‘I Took It Out On You’ and ‘Won’t Let Go’ which Newton played live for the first time on his recent UK tour.

More details to follow soon plus check back on Monday when we will announce details of Newtons new tour later this year.

Meantime Newton plays the iTunes Festival at the London Roundhouse this Monday 13th July with special guests and label mates Raygun.
