fast-and-furious-header

After delivering four fuel-filled installments in the Fast and Furious series, writer Chris Morgan appears to still have more in the tank. That’s a car joke, by the way.

Actor and star Vin Diesel broke the news this week via his Facebook fan page that Morgan’s idea for the future of the franchise includes two more installments. Calling it a saga, Diesel said that if “2009’s Fast and Furious was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and chapter 3.” Diesel went on:

I have never been submitted a two story saga from a studio before… it is very exciting, and shows a commitment level that is hard not to respond to.

Excited about the sexy locations the filming of this sag…a would take us… this novel like story, that has twists and unexpected turns that is authentic, truthful and challenging to the characters.

Diesel is right in the sense that it is rare to see such commitment from a studio, at least this far in advance. But consider this: the total production cost of all four Fast and Furious movies thus far was just under $200 million. The films have grossed almost a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. They are also notorious for doing big business in rentals and DVD sales. For Universal Pictures, another order of two shots of Diesel and Paul Walker driving fast in pursuit of money and women is just what the doctor ordered. In this recovering economy, you can never have too much of a sure thing.

More on this story as it develops, and as the studio confirms or denies.

Spider-Man 4 is Dead; Reboot Planned

spiderman4-header

Reports are coming in from Nikki Finke and her new man-about-NYC Mike Fleming at Deadline that Spider-Man 4, as we know it now, is dead in the water. The studio (Sony) has apparently decided to scrap the project and look forward to a potential franchise reboot after director Sam Raimi pulled out of the project, citing that he would not be able to meet the film’s summer release date and maintain the film’s creative integrity.

This means that both Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire are out.

Instead, Fleming reports that “the studio will focus on a reboot script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast.” Sony will now look to someone new to guide the Spidey franchise, but no word yet as to who that might be. Raimi will move on to one of the many projects he has lined up, including possibly World of Warcraft.

This comes as a great surprise to everyone off the Sony lot, as we’ve been talking about Spider-Man 4 for quite some time. But in recent weeks, the production has hit more than one bump in the road. There were talks of script problems, conflicting reports about villains and other creative quarrels inside the production. Actors were in talks, but awaiting a script. New writers were brought on, then discarded. Now it seems more than likely that these problems built to a boiling point, causing Sam Raimi to decide that he needed more time. And Sony didn’t want to give him that time.

An interesting road lies ahead, as the studio clearly wants to continue making Spider-Man movies. But without Raimi, they could take on an entirely different tone. We in the press will spend the next several years (I’m sure) speculating as to what that tone will be. Should make for an interesting journey…

TOP 2009 Trailers

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

top2009

Below you will find TrailerAddict’s top trailers of 2009. Though they are in no specific order, you may notice that the better trailers are listed near the bottom of the list. Coincidence?

Terminator Salvation – Extended Trailer
Picked just because we have nothing against extended trailers or the original Terminator theme song. Yes, it might have given a bit too much away, but the film’s teaser trailer already gave away the film’s biggest plot twist, so what was left? Watch Trailer »

Tron Legacy – Comic Con Trailer
Though we already saw this trailer once in 2008 at SDCC, fans had no issue seeing it again. Acting as the ultimate teaser, while still showing enough goodies – Light Cycles! — the first preview for Tron Legacy confirmed the return of Jeff Bridges, as it did in 2008, and reminded moviegoers that this is one franchise deserving of a sequel. Watch Trailer »

500 Days of Summer – Feature Trailer
With the loss of Don LaFontaine in 2008 we’ve been forced to hear some pretty bad replacements as voice-over narrators for trailers. The teaser trailer for 500 Days of Summer reminded us of this. At least, at first. While the constant repeating of “500 Days” came across as annoying, though “Sweet Disposition” was right on, it did help us remember 500 Days of Summer. The feature trailer decided to use the same narrator, but only at the beginning, and then lets a killer multi-score soundtrack take over. Well done. Watch Trailer »

Moon – Trailer
When you begin claiming that a film is a return to sci-fi classics while having a relatively untested director at the helm, that leaves a lot to prove in the film’s first trailer. Add in the fact that the film follows a single individual, and things have just become a bit more complicated. Enter the first and only trailer for Moon, which enjoys a terrific build-up, thrilling music from the great Clint Mansell, and a general sense that one should never be alone for too long. Just for good measure, the preview features some (deserved) critical acclaim. Watch Trailer »

2012 – Trailer B
Roland Emmerich has made a living out of providing audiences with disaster films. After wowing moviegoers with a little film known as Independence Day, the director began to slide. Focusing more on effects than quality of story, we have sat through films that included Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC; all of which had very nice looking trailers. Then we were shown a compilation of disaster footage for 2012. Though we knew better, the footage did suggest that Emmerich, after years of practice, was giving us his coup de gras. With unbelievable visuals, and a matching extended clip, audiences couldn’t help but become sold on the film’s special effects. Watch Trailer »

Last House on the Left – Trailer
Another trailer that used music perfectly. The only trailer for the remake showcases Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, as covered by the group Taken by Trees. A cover song for a remake? Couldn’t be more fitting. Better yet, the song’s lyrics and slower rhythm fits the preview beautifully. The only issue with the trailer is that it closes out by giving too much away. Oh well, the film was able to hold back on other nice surprises. Watch Trailer »

A Serious Man – Trailer
“Please, I need help.” Wait – What is that banging? Oh, a man’s head. Okay. Er, what? The sound of a head being bashed continues throughout the preview, along with a compilation – or more like a mashup – of both footage and dialogue from the film. Some of it even repeats. End it with, “The Rabbi is busy,” and we are reminded that we should expect nothing less from Joel and Ethan Coen. Watch Trailer »

Inglourious Basterds – Teaser Trailer & Trailer
When Quentin Tarantino announced that he was moving forward with a World War II movie that would take a twist on history while using an unrelenting collection of languages including English, German, French and Italian, one couldn’t help but be interested. No, the film was not entirely in black and white; something some rumors claimed it was. Instead, the film was chock full of Tarantino flair. While we had hoped to choose one trailer for the film, you can’t have the trailer without the teaser. Exaggerating Brad Pitt’s role in the film, the teaser trailer introduced the “Basterds” while showcasing terrific sound editing, blood-splattered text, and a quick compilation of footage from the film. Leaving a lot to be imagined, the trailer filled in all the gaps left behind by the teaser. The trailer also showed a continued marketing strategy of showcasing Brad Pitt in the film, a face that has a huge box office draw domestically, though the international marketing gave more focus to other cast members including Christoph Waltz and Mélanie Laurent. The trailer also teased another small film, Nation’s Pride. Watch Trailer »

Avatar – Trailer
With a half a decade (and counting) worth of expectations, it comes as no surprise that fans were polarized by the first trailer for Avatar. With no dialogue, unless you count, “This is great,” from Sam Worthington, the two-minute plus preview was all about the visuals. 20th Century Fox later followed that up with a dialogue-toting three-minute plus trailer, but the damage was done. What damage? Well, the first (and second) trailer for Avatar was one of the few reminders that some trailers are better seen in the theaters and NOT online. Sigh. We know, sacrilege, but in the case of Avatar it couldn’t have been more true. The film’s 3D trailer would go on to knock the pants off those fortunate enough to catch it before God knows what sort of CG animation. With the entire veil now drawn back, fans agree with Cameron’s single piece of dialogue– This is great. Watch Trailer »

Clash of the Titans – Teaser Trailer
Yes, we also adore the feature trailer for Clash of the Titans, but it is the film’s teaser trailer that set the ass-kicking pace. Playing what sounds to be a remixed track of “The Bird and the Worm” by The Used, the first glimpse at the film was akin to an acid trip, but with mythological gods! In just over a minute, Warner Bros showed a kickass remake that thankfully doesn’t look to have used that same metallic owl from the original. Oh, and just for kicks, there was nothing cooler than seeing a giant scorpion strike down to the beat of the music. Watch Trailer »

District 9 – Teaser Trailer
While we may never understand the reasoning behind the blurred alien face, which was later removed mind you, District 9 looked as if it were made for those disappointed by the loss of Halo; including we here at TrailerAddict. When Halo got both Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp on board, the adaptation of the popular first person shooter couldn’t have been setup more perfect. But then, with rising cost estimates, it fell through. In came District 9, a project that Blomkamp and Jackson were able to deliver. The best part is, now nobody knew what to expect. Shot in docu-style, the preview opens up by assuming the discussion is some sort of unwanted immigrants. Kind of, but not exactly. “They are not human.” Cut to realistic UFO. Holy sh… Watch Trailer »

Star Trek – Feature Trailer
If you can’t tell yet, we have got a weakness for trailer music. Even before the first trailer, the selection of cast (and director) gave fans of the franchise a renewed confidence in this restart. While the teaser trailer and first trailer gave fans something worth getting excited for, it was the feature trailer, with its use of the track “Freedom Fighters” from Two Steps from Hell that sold those still on the fence. The trailer starts with a perfect introduction to James T. Kirk, played by Chris Pine, provides great lines of dialogue that give a general sense of what the story is about and, if you can believe it, “too much” action. All to a wonderfully dramatic score. Fire everything! Watch Trailer »

Where the Wild Things Are – Trailer
A perfect example of the importance of music selection for a film preview. Just about every trailer for Where the Wild Things Are boasted the song “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire, including the film’s captivating first trailer. With the help of this particular song selection, both the band and the film received an incredible amount of recognition. Throw in some great visuals, creative text, and you have a trailer worth watching repeatedly. Watch Trailer »

Watch The Men Who Stare At Goats (2009)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

George Clooney proclaims to Ewan McGregor
in the newest film directed by Grant Heslov. The irony in the statement is obvious as McGregor is most well known for his portrayal of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Men Who Stare at Goats, which is based off a book by the same title, is an account of the author’s investigation of the studies done by the U.S military into psychic abilities. Therefore, “More of this is true than you would believe.” The film centers around Bob Wilton, a reporter for a local newspaper. Wilton, as played by the talented McGregor, has his life turned upside down when a coworker suddenly dies of a heart attack in the office. Bob’s wife, a secretary for his editor, decides life is too short and promptly leaves him for their boss. Alone and abandoned, Walton decides to go to Iraq, but finds himself sticking out like a sore thumb. At the hotel bar, Bob has a chance encounter with Lynn Cassidy, a man who was aforementioned to Bob by a nutcase he had interviewed earlier. During the interview, the interviewee claimed that both he and Cassidy were part of a secret government project that trained super soldiers with psychic abilities. Walton approaches Cassidy and the two embark on a secret mission that involves traipsing through the desert to an indescript location known only to Cassidy. Along the way, Lynn shares with Bob how he came to be the “Jedi” he is and what eventually happened that led him to the dark side.

The Men Who Stare at Goats is a funny film. The problem with it is that the jokes are too obvious and of the formulaic slap stick variety that guarantees a cheap laugh and nothing more. Both Clooney and McGregor pull off their roles seamlessly. And while McGregor’s talent is much appreciated, it almost seems like the film was indebted to his presence.

A lot of the jokes, which may not have been meant to be funny in the first place, were entertaining for the simple fact that McGregor’s most prominent role was as the very thing he wishes to learn so much about here. It is also ironic that a lot of the “skills” Cassidy trains himself in, such as invisibility, remote locating people, and seeing through objects, were never part of the Jedi repertoire to begin with.

The film is very slow paced, and at times borderlines on being boring, frequently leaving the audience wondering whether what we are presented with is pertinent information. The events that happen to Walton and Cassidy range from unfortunate to downright unlucky and unbelievable. In fact, the main issue with this movie is whether or not we as the audience should take it seriously.

The perfect example to contrast this film with is the recent, Zombieland. Here was a film that acknowledged its own ridiculousness and reveled in it. Consequentially, Zombieland was an entertaining, fun movie to watch. Whereas, The Men Who Stare at Goats purports to be about a serious subject, that psychic abilities really do exist, and yet at the same time shows us the most ridiculous of situations and events. How are we to take anything it shows us seriously and still be able to enjoy the film?

Ultimately, Watch The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) to captivate. The characters are too transparent and at the same time, unbelievable to make this film interesting. The events that transpire are too coincidental and the plot riddled with numerous holes. The film takes itself too seriously for it to be the comedic film we would like it to be, and that ultimately, makes it a failure.

Satellite TV has been around for some time, but to watch satellite TV on PC is something new. You may think that only the tech savvy younger generation who knows the in and out of TV technology, and the worldwide web are the only ones who are fiddling with PC satellite TV. While this is quite right in the past, nowadays, more families, even the older folks like our computer illiterate grannies and granddaddies are picking up pc skills. And the reality that it is simple to shift our pc into a nice satellite television set, more are using the satellite TV software to watch satellite TV on PChow to watch satellite TV on pc.

Why watch satellite TV on PC when you can watch satellite TV using dish system?

Perhaps a fair comparison would be able to shed some light. If you watch satellite TV with a satellite dish system, the satellite dish you are using is probably a self-assembled one or installed by the service providers like DISH Network.

Do-it-yourself satellite dish TV systems can cost you anything upwards of $200. Some of them come in ready packages with instruction manuals. But you also need to buy the satellite dish kit to set up. Others who are even more adventurous purchase their own basic dish, receiver, mount and other individual parts for assembly. The number of TV channels you get to watch relies on how much sky your dish covers. The wider the coverage, the more satellite TV programs you get to enjoy. In most cases, it is possible to receive a dozen television channels. While you can watch satellite TV for free using this manner, the tool is not exactly cheap and the installation can be rather hard.

Those who watch TV using satellite TV services can do away with the installation part as the company would supply it free. However, depending on the length of your subscription contract, you may need to fork out some money for the basic satellite TV equipment such as the dish, receivers and other peripherals like HDTV and DVR receivers. This alone would cost more than $100 at least. Channel variety starts from a hundred over programs for basic package and increases with more expensive TV packages. They also provide other value packages and features like pay-per-view or pay TV for special LIVE games, entertainment show, etc. One major setback to watch satellite TV using satellite services is the monthly bill you would receivesatellite TV on pc.

When you watch satellite TV on PC, you are tuning into satellite TV online. PC satellite TV software is required to activate and configure your PC resources such that it can get started receiving satellite TV signals for display on your monitor. As long as your PC is connected to the internet, you can watch satellite TV on PC instantly anytime you want. If you have a wireless router at home, even your laptop can be transformed into an additional TV.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you agree with the Twihards that New Moon is the film of the year? Or is this supernatural romance strangely bloodless?

Poor old Chris Weitz. Once considered a promising film-maker, round about the time he successfully transformed Nick Hornby’s pleasant and enjoyable novel About a Boy into an equally pleasant and enjoyable movie starring Hugh Grant and that kid from Skins, he now finds himself working as a hired hand on film number two of the Twilight saga, the hugely popular but strangely bloodless series based on Stephenie Meyer’s romantic books about a schoolgirl who falls in love with a vampire. The critics are predictably nonplussed by a movie that stretches to more than two hours, at least half of which is the celluloid equivalent of hanging out with a female Kevin the Teenager.

“Constrained by the plot of the novel, the film keeps the two lovers apart for quite a spell, robbing the project of the crazy-in-love energy that made Twilight, the first entry in the series, such a guilty pleasure,” writes the LA Times’s Kenneth Turan. “Weitz makes the vampire trains of Melissa Rosenberg’s capable script run on time, but he almost seems too rational a director for this kind of project. This lack of animating madness combined with the novel’s demands give much of New Moon a marking time quality.”

“There are some entertaining things about New Moon: Stewart is developing as an actor in a way Pattinson isn’t, and there are droll scenes in which some characters go and see films,” writes our own Peter Bradshaw. “But the franchise is looking a little anaemic.”

“Under Weitz’s direction, the actors have gained some confidence, and this chaste love triangle among creatures of the night has all the requisite looks of tortured longing,” writes The Telegraph’s Tim Robey. “What it misses is any animating pulse: we just wait and wait for the bleeding obvious.”

Of course, none of the above is really catering for New Moon’s target audience, so perhaps a fairer representation would be the reaction from fans who attended the film’s first public screening in London’s Leicester Square last week. Skip forward to around the 40-second mark in the video below for a battering of youthful enthusiasm.

New Moon, for me, is a marginal improvement on its predecessor, if only because Pattinson, an actor whose technique consists entirely of a sort of fixed, narcissistic pout and sullen-toned delivery, is absent for much of the movie. Stewart, in the pivotal role of Bella, actually does pretty well with very little material to work with. It’s been clear since her beautifully understated turn in Greg Mottola’s excellent Adventureland that she has the ability to play these type of damaged but enigmatic characters without resorting to histrionics.

Ultimately, however, New Moon is just way too long, and despite the odd visual flourish from Weitz – a shot in which a painting of some vampires comes alive is a nice touch – this is basically Dawson’s Creek with more blood and teeth: enjoyably vapid entertainment for a hungover Sunday afternoon on the sofa, perhaps, but hardly worthy of a big screen outing.

I also have a major problem with what seems to me to be Meyer’s ruthless exploitation of foetal teenage emotions. The story seems to encourage young people to hold on tight to their first love, no matter how much of the rest of their life is left in ruins. By the end of New Moon, as an intelligent 18-year-old, Bella surely ought to be girding her loins for some form of higher education and a whole new world of adventures. Instead she is angling to be turned into a vampire herself so that she may spend eternity with her undead lover. The film’s objectionable suggestion is that it is acceptable to make major life decisions when one is barely out of one’s teens.

What did you think of New Moon, if you caught it over the weekend? Are the critics right to dismiss it? Or are you siding with the legions of teenage fans for whom R-Patz and K-Stew can do no wrong?

Each High School Musical follower probably already knew that there is a fourth installation of the High School Musical. Contrary to what had been rumored the High School Musical 4 will not subtitled “College Years” instead it will called the High School Musical 4: East Meets West.

There are many changes implemented in the High School Musical 4 in comparison to previous three High School Musicals installments. The High School Musical 4: East Meets West will be directed by a renowned choreographer Jeffrey Hornaday. Jeffrey Hornaday was a choreographer of legendary movies Flashdance and A Chorus Line and the Director of the movie Shout.

Disney announced that he High School Musical 4: East Meets West will be having a new casts. Fans have to expect that there will be no Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu in the HSM 4. Just like you, I’m intrigue who will be starring in the HSM 4, after all Disney is been known for introducing new talents.

The High School Musical 4: East Meets West will revolve on the classic love triangle set against the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights. The HSM 4: East Meets West is expected to be a cultural sensation.

As of the present Disney Channel and the people handling the production of High School Musical 4: East Meets West, did not yet release names of the cast that will star in this much awaited movie. The only certain, is that, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale would not be in fourth sequel of the record breaking movie.

The previous three installment of the High School Musical made a huge multi-media hit. It made success in TV, Movie and recording. The High School Musical 2 premiere had brought in a total of 17.3 million viewers in the United States alone. Making it the highest-rated Disney Channel Movie and the most viewed TV movie to date. On the other hand, the High School Musical 3: Senior Years was made into a film and currently holds the record for the highest-grossing movie musical in its opening weekend, with over $80,000,000 worldwide.

Disney’s “High School Musical” premiered in January 2006 on Disney Channel U.S. and posted the highest ever ratings for a Disney Channel Original Movie at the time. It went on to become a smash hit internationally, airing on Disney Channels and free-to-air broadcasters worldwide. To-date, it has reached more than 290 million viewers, in over 30 languages, across 100 countries, including India, China and Russia.

With the astonishing record of the previous High School Musicals, there’s so much expectation with the fourth sequel. I am really hoping that whenever I could watch high school musical 4 online, it could satisfy the taste of the tween and teen audiences which it serves.

If you are planning to watch high school musical 4 online, you have to wait until 2010. Because the High School Musical 4: East Meets West is scheduled to debut in 2010.
