MW2

More news today for Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward that fans of the series did not want to hear. Infinity Ward’s Mackey McCandlish and Ryan Lastimosa had a online discussion with the Best Buy community.

First, the Infinity Ward developers answered fans on the matter of considering dedicated server in the near future:

“We feel the PC game is great in it’s current form. We put a lot of work into IWnet in an effort to make the PC experience better for our users. We believe MW2 is better than CoD4:MW. The reason iw.net exists is to improve the gameplay for our users. If there is a need for something more in the future we will address as needed. Our goal is to provide the best experience for our users, so nothing is ever “off the table”. We are always evaluating our options.”

Then they were asked on how Infinity Ward felt about the petition for the dedicated server:

“All I can say is that we changed it to make it a better and easier experience. Also, not all of the [178,000] names on that list are legit. 402 signed it 4 times I heard.”

Finally, the community asked about adding more players to the match instead of the normal 18 players, which surprisingly the developers said that the game will capped out at 18 players.

“Games cap out at 9v9. The software has great latency tolerance.”

These specification will be standard for all consoles and PC of course. With just a few more days till launch of probably the biggest FPS game of the year, What do you think about all this and will you be buying the game?

Once the internet got hold of news that there will not be any dedicated server for Infinity Ward’s ‘Modern Warfare 2′ for PC, fans storms out with petitions, raging across the internet, and of course the usual bashing of the company. Among the chaos, Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling (aka fourzerotwo) tries to explain how no dedicated server is not such a bad idea to the angry mob and also tops it off by listing out the benefits of using their IWNet (just read some of the comments..ouch).

On his blog he talks about how every users can jump right into IWNet without players learning how to maintain a dedicated server on their own.

He also list out the positive side to this such as:

  • Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay
  • Playlists and Private Matches
  • Party System and Friendslist
  • Cheat / Hack Free Games

Bowling added:

All in all, IWNET adds a load of new features that the PC version of our games have never had before and allows us an infrastructure to continue to update and improve on the game post-launch.

I wonder if this will settle the community down till the game launches on November 10th.

Check out Bowling’s blog for the full explanation.

Someone very special seems to have a copy of Modern Warfare 2 early and did what any other ordinary gamer would do, which of course, is to record it and share it with the whole internet. The video that leaked out did show a very important hidden feature in the upcoming Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward most likely wanted to keep it a secret till launch of the game or as close to launch as possible.

The video showed off one of the hidden feature which is the 3rd person mode in Modern Warfare 2. Also, it got a quick look at the list of all the other game modes (already translated from French to English in no time by the community).

List of the game modes:

  • team deathmatch
  • free-for-all
  • domination
  • ground war
  • sabotage
  • HQ Pro
  • Search and destroy
  • capture the flag
  • demolition
  • 3rd person team deathmatch
  • hardcore team deathmatch
  • hardcore Search and destroy
  • teamdeathmatch
  • cage match 3rd person

It would been a better surprise if they put dedicated server as one of the features that was hidden till launch.

Check out the video after the break.

Playstation 4 and XBox 720 – rumours and concepts

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes it is true, even after the short time of the release of Sony’s playstation 3 & Microsofts Xbox 360, we are seeing the concepts for there new machines rumoured to be released in 2010.

We dont know if this is all true yet butwe will keep you posted as soon as we find out, please check out the cool photos and information we have found out below.

What we know:

The Guardian says!

“As everyone knows, the videogame industry is cyclic. Roughly every five years a new generation of console technology arrives and we dutifully hand over our cash to experience the new visuals and, if we’re lucky, the odd innovative new feature.

The business ostensibly dislikes this rhythmic pattern. The implementation of new platforms is mind-numbingly expensive, both for the manufacturers and the developers. But yet, every five years, the rumours start, and with them the vociferous – yet never entirely convincing – denials …

In the second part of an interview with Develop, the head of Microsoft Game Studios, Phil Spencer, claims there are no plans for Xbox 720 because the new motion control system, Natal, will indefinitely expand the lifespan of the current model: “And in terms of putting more hardware on the market, what else can we do? Put more memory in it? I don’t think that’s enough. We like where we are at with the box – 360 currently has a great price point. Consumers don’t want another $400 box right now.”

“We instead want consumers and developers to know that we are all going to make a huge return on that original investment in the hardware – the one Microsoft made in building it, the one developers made in making games for it, and the investment consumers made in buying the console. In the current climate that’s something people are going to appreciate much more.”

Convincing and sensible stuff, but unfortunately it’s preceded by: “Do we need to sell a new console at some point? I don’t think we need to right now. We’ll wait until our experiences are at the right point … ” You see, there’s no such thing as denial when it comes to the generational business model – just flirtatious little stallers.

This is an interesting point for the industry, though. In the midst of a recession and with two pieces of hardware that developers are clearly still extracting plenty of extra performance from, flirting with the possibility of replacements does seem a bit vulgar and unnecessary. And let’s be honest, can anyone really afford to start thinking about PlayStation 4? Certainly not Sony, which announced losses of £685m back in May – and the company is still making a loss on each PS3 sold – even the skinny ones.

At the end of last month, Rich Hilleman, the chief creative officer of Electronic Arts, gave an interview to the tech site Venture Beat , in which he ventured the following very brief prediction: “I expected we’ll see a PlayStation 3.5 before we see a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox 560 before we see an Xbox 720.”

And this certainly seems to be the way things are shaping up. Xbox 360 is soon to be reinvigorated with Natal. PS3 has been slimmed down, has had video-on-demand and TV tuner features added, and has a motion controller on the way. There’s been speculation Sony may offer a new iteration of the console before Christmas – designed with movie fans in mind, the bundle is said to feature a 250GB hard drive, PlayTV and Blu-ray remote control.

The future then, or at least the near-future, is all about targeting and refinement. It’s a bit more like how the car industry works: add a few little features to the basic product – a tweaked engine, nicer interiors, a fancy entertainment system – then market it to a fresh audience at a fraction of the price of developing a whole new model. Of course, Sega experimented with this approach between the Mega Drive and the Saturn, with various interstitial machines like the Mega CD, Mars and never-released Jupiter, but back then the consumers were hungry for a whole new generation and with the seductive PlayStation on the horizon, Sega’s strategy just looked confused. This time round, no one is lurking in the background with something radically new and highly advanced. Unless Nintendo is about to really surprise us all.”

Others say!

Sony have mentioned that the PS3 will be around for 10 years. What does this mean for the future of the Sony Playstation 4? Well, considering the PS2 and PS3 went side by side for a while, it might not mean much. We still could see a PS4 console in the next few years. However, Microsoft have also expressed interest in this area and “might” be planning on beating Sony to the mark. Maybe an XBox 720 is just around the corner

Q: Do you want to be first with the next one, too?
A: Too early to tell. Our view is we will be selling Xbox 360 for a long time. We are always working on new technologies. We have people working on those. People ask me how many people I have working on the next generation. On the one hand, it’s everybody. On the other, it’s nobody. People are continuously working on new technology.

Q: What’s the planning cycle?
A: We start thinking about the next generation before we shipped the Xbox 360. It doesn’t start with a date. It starts way upstream with silicon development. From that comes a series of data points. You start making early technology choices. It’s an evolving thing. Stuff doesn’t become concrete until you get inside a window of when you have to ship, more than 18 months or so out.

Sims 3 – Game review (IGN)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For most of the past decade, The Sims franchise has maintained a permanent presence on the Top 10 sales charts of PC games. Often, it occupied multiple slots on those charts. That’s because for every hardcore gamer who scoffs at The Sims, there are many more non-traditional gamers who love the series. Yes, many of those people are female. That makes it easy for some to simply describe The Sims as the equivalent of a virtual dollhouse, but that oversimplifies things. The Sims, like almost any game, is about living a different life than your own. Some people escape reality by diving into MMOs. Others jump straight into shooters. It turns out that whole bunches of people turn to The Sims. And in this regard, The Sims 3 won’t disappoint. With the third chapter in the series, EA has introduced some overdue growth and made some bold changes, yet much of this brave new world’s potential remains relatively untapped.

I’ve been a fan of The Sims since the very beginning; Will Wright’s idea of letting you control virtual people in their everyday lives taps that desire that we all have to be ruler of the world and tell everyone else where to stuff it. The Sims is the closest that many of us will ever get to Ed Harris’ character in The Truman Show; that’s the movie where he plays the director who gets to “cue the sun” and manipulate events around the unsuspecting Truman Burbank, played by Jim Carrey. The thing is, Truman doesn’t realize that the quaint, coastal town that he lives in is in fact a carefully staged set and that his every move is caught on camera and beamed to the outside world. The Truman Show is an apt description for The Sims 3, because it too takes place in a quaint, coastal town that your sims can go out and explore. Yet wherever they go, you’ll be carefully watching.

Watch The Sims 3 video review (HD available).

As you’ve probably heard, the big change in The Sims 3 is the fact that it no longer revolves around a single household lot at a time. Your sims can go anywhere in town at any time without pause. This is a very welcome change, because the gameplay doesn’t feel claustrophobic anymore; you’re no longer spending 95-percent of your time looking at the same house and then having to sit through lengthy loading screens for those moments when you send your sims out into the world. This freedom is pretty liberating; I spent quite a bit of time at first just switching between my characters just to watch the camera pull back on the town and then zoom in on the location of the next character. It doesn’t take too long before you get used to the change, and it’s hard to imagine how we played The Sims before. Now it seems totally natural to send one sim to the park, while another goes shopping downtown, while another stays at home; you can switch between all three effortlessly and almost instantly. Lives feel more naturally lived this way. You don’t even need to worry much if you neglect your sims because they default with a high level of free will; leave them alone and they’ll take care of themselves and keep themselves amused. It can be fun just to let go of the mouse, sit back, and watch what they do on their own.

There’s also a much greater sense of a living, breathing world. You see other sims going about their daily lives; sims still age and die, and after a while new sims show up, giving a sense that people are coming and going. The sims themselves are now powered by much more sophisticated psychological systems than found in earlier games; they might be party animals or childish, flirty or brave, neurotic or clumsy, and more. You might see maids who are secretly kleptomaniacs (never a good combination) or health nuts constantly working out. I like watching the neighborhood at night and seeing the cat burglars skulk around the houses and night owls going about their thing.

It’s easy to visit other sims’ homes and see what they’re up to.

Life on the home front is also much improved. Your sims no longer have to constantly run to the bathroom like in the old games; now you can send them about once per day, and there are ways to reduce that even more. That gives you more time to play with, and at its heart The Sims is very much a time management game where you juggle daily and lifelong goals. There’s the short-term need to keep them fed, social, and happy, but then there are long-term needs that require them to improve their skills in order to gain a promotion, work out to get into shape, read a cookbook learn a new recipe, tend to an elaborate garden, or maintain friendships before they fray. There’s never enough time in the day, so you must learn to set and prioritize goals.

This all translates into a more elegant gameplay experience, one that doesn’t feel as constrained or confined as before. Yet if there’s one complaint, it’s that The Sims 3 doesn’t really explore what all this freedom can offer. In many ways, you’re still doing the same tasks as before. For example, when your sims race off for work you now have the luxury of being able to follow them all the way to their workplace before they disappear for hours at a time. Imagine if EA could make everyday work as interesting as everyday life in The Sims? You could experience challenges trying to earn a paycheck. Or perhaps the designers could embed adventures and mysteries within the world for you to uncover? Maybe there could be some MMO-style quests that NPCs could grant? The potential is here to create a much grander and richer experience, and it’ll be interesting to see what route EA takes with the expansions going forward.

There’s more to The Sims than just managing people, though. It’s also a fun way to experiment with architecture, as it’s a lightweight alternative to those consumer-level CAD programs that let people use to try to design and outfit a dream home. Designing a house in The Sims 3 requires a lot of trial-and-error, but it can be thoroughly rewarding in its own way as you bring a vision to virtual life. There’s an incredible amount of options, too, when it comes to selecting wallpaper, paint, surfaces, and furniture. And when it comes to furnishings, clothes, and objects, you’re no longer constrained with the color patterns that Maxis has created; you can create your own custom patterns in game and then share those with other people online.

The online integration in The Sims 3 is greater than in previous games in the series, but nowhere near as deep or as seamless as that in Spore. (For the record, while Maxis created Spore and the first two games in The Sims franchise, The Sims are now handled by a team at EA’s Redwood Shores complex.) While Spore had a built-in browser that let you peruse all the user-generated content, The Sims 3 requires you to visit the official Web site to access The Exchange, which lets you download user-made content such as sims and furniture patterns, as well as The Store, which introduces the idea of microtransactions to pay for EA-designed objects, sims, lots, and more. Considering the wild popularity of the expansion packs, it seems like a given that an online store will be successful, but we’ll see. The Web site also lets you create your own Sims 3 blog, as well as edit movies that you record in the game. All of this is likely to be gravy for fans that really love The Sims and want to share everything they do, but they’re completely optional and unnecessary to enjoying the core game.

Go anywhere without hitting a loading screen.

One impressive aspect of The Sims 3 has been its performance. Anyone who played the first two games in the series remembers just how badly the frame rate could struggle if you put more than half-a-dozen sims in the same room. Even though The Sims 3 models an entire town and everything in it, the performance has been completely smooth on a high-end PC with no noticeable hiccups at all, even with all the graphical sliders at maximum.

Visually, some might argue that the graphics aren’t as great a leap as they were from The Sims to The Sims 2 and that the sims themselves aren’t that much more detailed than their predecessors. Yet the sims in The Sims 3 look more natural than those in The Sims 2; the sharp edges in the faces have given way to rounder, softer curves, and there’s a greater variety of body sizes to play with. The lighthearted art style is also a nice way to avoid any uncanny valley issues. That’s the theory that when you try and create a more lifelike robot or human facsimile, it creates a greater sense of revulsion because it just doesn’t feel right. The rest of The Sims 3 looks great; it’s sort of amazing to take your sims to the beach and watch the setting sun over the horizon. And the buildings in town are packed with detail; you can almost read the books in the window of the bookstore.

You can get some pretty amazing views never seen in a Sims game before.

Meanwhile, the audio keeps the charming simlish that the sims like to gibber-gabber with, but let’s face it, The Sims isn’t a series really known for its audio prowess. With that said, it’s hard not to be swayed by the revamped theme music; there’s an energy and excitement there that’s fitting for the new scope of the game. There’s also a large variety of pleasing background music in different genres, including real-world classical music from the great composers. You can select whichever music you like, and it all blends nicely into the background and helps to while the hours away.

Closing Comments
The Sims 3 may not sway non-Sims fans from changing their minds about the series, but there’s more than enough here to please the many legions of fans already out there. This is simply a better playing Sims experience, and once you experience the freedom to hit the town without hitting a load screen you’ll be hard-pressed to go back to any of the earlier games. Blowing up the size of the game was certainly a risk, but it was a sensible and overdue one, and kudos to EA for recognizing that the decade-old formula needed some growth. And while there’s still plenty of room for more innovation, we’ll settle for The Sims 3 for now. It delivers a solid foundation for what should be many more years of Sims sales dominance.

modern-warfare-2

Robert Bowling aka FourZeroTwo (FZT) and the Creative Strategist for Infinity Ward tried his best to answer a lot of questions from fans and the community of Modern Warfare 2. He made a list of questions that he answered that will clarify what will be and what will not be in Modern Warfare 2.

What is the level cap in MW2?
Max level in MW2 is level 70 this time. We have a lot more weapons, perks, attachments, callsign items, and equipment to unlock this time, needed more levels!

Will IW do anything to deal with the use of controller mods?
IW stated they are addressing modded controllers in MW2 – slightly different than the Rate of Fire cap we did in COD4 recently, but gave no specifics.

Will our Australian buddies have better luck getting into games faster and with better regional selections?
There isn’t an option to search specific regions / countries when matchmaking, but there is improved matchmaking to auto-assist.

Someone must of asked about the new riot shields in multiplayer and what if everyone was using them.
An entire team of Riot Shields would be slow moving and extremely vulnerable. Flash grenades force you to expose some…(he probably was leaking too much information here.)

cod4_d2d_300x250On weather..
“Quite a few maps have varying degrees of visibility due to weather effects.” Also there WILL be SNOW MAPS in MW2 multiplayer, Notice he said MAPS, so maybe a few good ones.

On taking down an enemy AC-130.
“It takes two rockets to take down an AC-130 in MP. Meaning you can’t do it alone but can do it as a team”,

Airdrops can give resupply or drop you a knew kill streak. Can you choose between the two before you drop?
Nope. Air Drops are random. They could be an ammo resupply or an awesome killstreak reward. Its luck of the draw.”

Will we get a Demo?
Basically the answer is NO!

What game type is Special Ops mode?
Special Ops includes a variety of gametypes and mission objectives. One of many being a Wave Defense type.” it has also been mentioned that many of the games and maps in Special Ops mode must be unlocked by compleating other Special Ops games. This may be quite a challenge to unlock all the maps if any or all of them are as challenging as Mile High Club!

On the question on getting anything other than a new badge for prestige.
There are going to be a few rewards for hitting prestige in #MW2 – can’t go into details, but there will be goodness to be had

Wow that did answered a lot of questions regarding the Modern Warfare 2. In the mean time check out the 8 minute gameplay video of Modern Warfare 2 first mission to satisfy your hunger. Modern Warfare will be available for consoles and PC on November 10.

asscreed2

Ubisoft just released a new trailer video of ‘Assassin’s Creed 2′ and this time it shows off many different type of weapons used in Assassin’s Creed 2. Of course, our favorite go-to guy ‘Leonardo Davinci’ is also in the video, for all our weapon needs. He will be the one who invents all these crazy hidden and some not-so-hidden weapons that you will be using to silence your enemies.

Oh nice we can make a hidden blade.. but let’s make it a double hidden blade!! Also, lets put poison on top of the hidden blade and how about we add a hidden gun behind your hidden blade and why not put some poison on the tip of your hidden gun too. We can call it the “poison hidden blade hidden gun”. Sorry about that just got a little carried away there.

The game will be out in November 20th and you can pre-order special limited white and black versions of the game from GameStop.
